As an adult adoptee who had not previously been actively involved in the adoption community, I had reached a point in my life where I wanted to 'give something back.' After finding out about Camp Connection I immediately knew that this would be the perfect opportunity to become involved.  

I was initally unsure about what to expect but the warm welcome from Ricky, Sue and the other 'buddies' (volunteer adult adoptees), along with the provision of a comprehensive training session, ensured that the only emotion remaining by the time the camp came around was one of excitement.  

Camp Connection 2008 was an enjoyable and enlightening experience for me on many levels. Over the duration of the weekend I got to know many special children while doing activities such as learning archery and how to play the drums. I especially got to know those children who thought it would be fun to tie me up! While I was always looking forward to interacting with and sharing my experiences with adopted children and their families at the camp, what I didn't expect was the strong friendships that also formed between the buddies. It didn't matter whether you yourself were adopted or if you were a sibling, parent, relative or friend of an adoptee - at Camp Connection everyone was united by our common bond.  

I hope to see you there again next year!
